The view of the 11,249-foot crown of Mount Hood -- Oregon’s tallest mountain and a signal landmark -- from Trillium Lake in the Cascade Range is unbeatable. This small impoundment along Mud Creek, a tributary of the wild Salmon River, is only a few miles south of the great volcano’s swell. In the wintertime, Mount Hood is often swaddled in storm clouds, but even if you don't get a volcano prospect, the shores of Trillium Lake offer some of the most pleasant snowshoeing in the area.
